This blog was created for students in the first year sequence of music theory courses. The primary purpose is to improve communication between the instructor and students as well as encourage peer to peer learning.

For example, you must transpose an F Horn from concert pitch. The flute is a concert pitch instument and they are in C, so you go up a perfect fifth, this gives you a G as your key. It works the same way backwards, to get to concert key, you go down a perfect fifth.
the best way is to memorize the intervals of each nonconcert pitched instrument
